Hi!

I’m Anaïs Maar, b.1993

painter and visual artist!

I’m based in Paris and Hyères, both places where I live and work.

I was raised along the banks of the Saône River in the small town of Neuville-sur-Saône, France. I graduated in 2015 from the Émile Cohl School in Lyon, specializing in editorial design and illustration.
I worked for several years in animation and illustration, where I developed a strong sensitivity to composition and color. Alongside this professional work, painting emerged quietly and privately, driven by a need to give form to what I was living at the time. Over the years, painting became a personal quest for stability.
After two years working with bichromy and trichromy - returning deliberately to the fundamentals of composition - the light and colors gradually began to erupt, mirroring a turning point in my own life.

My main working tools are painting, color, light, texture, bold shapes and vibration.
I use them to create a tension between abstraction and figuration, forms and symbols, the everyday and the sacred. It’s a reflexion on the painted surface, in a world where images are increasingly simplified, flattened and accelerated.
